SUD allows Contact and Incident times to span midnight but when you try to enter a Finish Time that is before the Start Time, it won’t save the change and highlights as an error.

This is because to have a time that spans midnight, you MUST use the +/- keys (inc/dec) to adjust  the Time Spent and not directly enter the Finish time. Looking at this example (click to enlarge the picture), 

you will notice that if you try to directly enter 00:08 as  the Finish Time, the Start Time is reset to 00:08 too because  it considers the 00:08 Finish Time to be 8 minutes past midnight on the 23rd July rather than  8 minutes past midnight on the 24th July which is your intent and to mis-quote Gladys Knight, you can’t Finish before you’ve Started.

 

SUD Release v4.2.1 made changes to allow time to span midnight, but the failed to enforce the +/- keys practice properly leading to poor quality data. This changed in SUD Release v4.2.7. In SUD Release v4.2.8 the same conditions are applied to RNA and Key Working session times.
